Portrait of Evan Brustein

Evan’s practice focuses primarily on civil rights litigation, representing victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment, wronged employees, and victims of police misconduct.  Evan is a seasoned trial attorney who has tried more than 100 cases to verdict in state and federal court. That experience helps Evan frame key facts for the greatest impact on a jury.

Throughout his career, Evan has been brought on to cases on the eve of trial to handle difficult witnesses and complex legal issues. Evan is adept at quickly familiarizing himself with the facts and legal issues of cases to make his clients and witnesses comfortable on the stand. Evan has taken testimony of numerous experts including in the fields of psychiatry, chemical recognition, ballistics, language, and water safety. His experience cross-examining hundreds of witnesses enables Evan to prepare his own clients and witnesses for challenging cross-examinations.

Evan began his legal career prosecuting juveniles for the New York City Law Department, and was quickly assigned to the Major Case Unit, where he investigated and tried the most serious cases.  Evan has prosecuted everything from sexual offenses to homicides. After becoming a supervisor, Evan trained junior attorneys in trial strategies and major case investigations. He has supervised hundreds of criminal investigations.  Following his tenure as a prosecutor, Evan served as Senior Counsel for the City of New York in the Special Federal Litigation Division, where he defended the City and its employees in federal civil rights cases.

While always prepared to go to trial, Evan leverages his substantial trial experience to advantageously resolve cases without the uncertainty of trial.
